The first enhancement of the Law of Attraction was about asking for what you want, not what you don’t want. It’s easy to know what that is because it’s generally the opposite of what you don’t want. You can easily use language like “I want to be healthy,” or “I want to be happy.” Just using that language will give you more neural resources, more brain power, and it will help you think different thoughts and feel different feelings. But when you make that change, there is still a problem. I see it a lot in my client work with people who are overweight or have body image problems.
Generally, overweight people are not happy at their core. They spend a lot of time complaining about their weight, a diet they are trying, or doing a new fitness program. They are driven by their pain of being fat, and they will say things like, “When I’m thin, my life is going to be amazing. When I’m thin, I will have the love, job, and life I want. The truth is most of my life is miserable because I’m fat.” They will daydream about being thin and feel good about that.
Here is what happens for most overweight people though. When they try a new diet, it could be any diet, take the Chinese ginseng diet for example. They follow it, start to lose weight, feel great, look great people notice and say they look great. A very interesting thing begins to take place when the shift begins to happen, that unconscious program that said life would be amazing when they are thin begins to kick in. Now they have to make changes, it’s time for them to be great, find the love, quit their job, update their resume, go to new interviews, make a lot of money, etc.
What happens for most people that have this pattern is the ego that contains all our fear and defense programs that want to protect us, kick in. It sounds something like this, “Are you kidding me?! You’re not great yet, you’re not ready. You have to take action.” And the ego is telling you not to do it because it isn’t safe. While your unconscious sang the dream that you will be pain free when you are thin, the ego (which has been waiting patiently to get you at the very incisive point) says you are not amazing and you need to stop because it is dangerous. In that space, you will go to your favorite party and have your favorite chips and dip and wake up the next morning and say, “Who could follow the ginseng diet?! I’m big boned, my metabolism doesn’t work for that diet!” You will fall off the diet and you will fall back to the old habits and the ego will punish you. You put all the weight back on plus an extra 5 pounds just in case you think about doing it again.
There is a linked neural program to the state you say you want, meaning you have connected meanings and feelings to that state. If you are depressed and you want to be happy, or angry and want to have fun, you have to think what you have connected to the state that you say you want that is a greater fear or greater pain. If you are fighting a condition that is your demon (fat, angry, depressed, etc.), you are going to discover that the state you say you want is going to be a challenge because there is an even greater fear or pain waiting for you there.
Those neural linked patterns are the biggest reasons most people can’t have the success they want with the Law of Attraction. The good news is you can find out what they are, you just haven’t been taught to look for them. When you are conscious of those linked neural programs, you will be able to recognize when they start to kick in and use tools and strategies to maintain your new lifestyle or way of thinking.
